Operating Hours

The doors here at Market open to the public three days each week: Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday (including all holidays, except December 25). Each Market day begins with a soft opening at 6 a.m., followed by a full opening at 7 a.m. Standholders open at their discretion before 7 a.m., as many collaborate with local chefs or fulfill wholesale offerings prior to a bustling Market day. Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday closing time is 3 p.m.

One of the things that makes Market so special is its historic central location in the City. And we are no stranger to the fact that this unique situation has its quirks – one of which can be deciding where to park. Luckily, there are a number of affordable options available nearby the Market House, including street parking, parking garages, and parking lots. From its open field inception in 1730, the public has had the unique privilege of owning Market. The beautiful 1889 Market House that stands today is owned by the City of Lancaster, who collaborates with the Central Market Trust for its maintenance.

A nonprofit organization called the Central Market Trust manages the day-to-day operations and long-range management of Market. The Trust is comprised of 13 community volunteers, two Standholder representatives, and the Executive Director (non-voting member).

One of the most special things about Market is that many of the stands are multi-generational, having been family-run for decades. Of note, our top three longest-running stands include Stoner’s Homegrown Vegetables, who clocked in at more than 100 years; Thomas Produce for more than 80 years; and Long’s Horseradish for more than 60 years.

No. For safety purposes, dogs are prohibited inside the Market House, with the exception of certified service dogs. motional Support Animals are not included under ADA guidelines.

Yes. Market is wheelchair-accessible at doors #1 and #2 on the southeast corner of the Market House, closest to Penn Square. Not all, but many of the Standholders do accept credit cards. However, if you’re without cash and find yourself intrigued by something at a cash-only stand, an ATM machine is located in the southeast corner of the Market House, closest to Penn Square, for your convenience.
